Chandigarh to Digitally Map Every Building Under NAKSHA Project

Chandigarh: The image and dimensions of every building in Chandigarh will now be available on the administration’s server. A digital survey for this purpose is soon to begin. This survey, being conducted under the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, is part of the National Geospatial Knowledge-Based Land Survey (NAKSHA) project.

Work on this will begin at the end of this month. As a pilot project, a few villages and sectors within Chandigarh have been selected. After this, the entire city will be mapped. The administration has hired around 100 surveyors for this purpose.

A separate body, the State Project Management Unit (SPMU), has been formed for this purpose and has been given a seating arrangement within the Municipal Corporation. The surveyors are being trained there. An employee involved in the training said that the equipment has arrived and work will begin soon.

There will be a digital assessment of the area of the building.

The survey is gathering data on how many buildings are built in the city, how large and in what area. After this survey, the buildings will be assigned digital numbers, and the administration will have a complete digital record of them.

Previously, this record was manual and based solely on information provided by people during land registration. This has led to numerous disputes over ownership or during legal proceedings. Now, if the administration has access to digital records, disputes can be resolved within seconds.

These areas are to be digitally surveyed.

The survey will first cover the adjoining villages of Sarangpur, Budail, Kajheri, Palsora, and Attawa, as well as sectors 2 to 17 (excluding Sector 13). The rest of the city will then be surveyed.

The project’s first survey covered an area of 30.61 square kilometers and a population of 147,945. Twenty teams have been formed for this purpose.

Administration’s Manimajra housing project in trouble

Space is also becoming a problem in the Municipal Corporation’s Manimajra Housing Project. This project was to be built on 33.50 acres. However, when work began, it was later discovered that the space was insufficient.

Now the problem of measuring the area has arisen. The measurement of this area is now being done digitally. This project is going to play a crucial role in the city’s development.

Learn in 4 points why a digital survey is needed .

    • There was a problem in maintaining manual records of the city buildings.
    • Proper records were not available for the development of the city.
    • Legal disputes used to arise regarding the measurement of any private or government building, due to lack of records, court cases are getting prolonged.
    • Property tax will be assessed correctly, for this the Municipal Corporation officials will not need to visit every building.
