Chandigarh Dumping Ground Waste to be Cleared by April 30: Mayor Joshi issues directives

The Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh now appears to be taking a strict stance regarding the waste strewn across the city’s dumping ground. The Mayor personally visited the site to conduct an inspection and issued directives to officials, mandating that the waste be completely cleared by April 30th, come what may. During the inspection, the Mayor expressed displeasure over the sluggish pace of waste removal and reprimanded the concerned officials.

The Mayor stated that the mound of waste at the dumping ground has long been a source of distress for the public. Residents living in the vicinity are facing hardships due to the stench and filth, a situation that will no longer be tolerated. He made it clear that punitive action would be initiated against the officials responsible if the work is not completed within the stipulated deadline.

During the inspection, flaws were also uncovered regarding the CCTV cameras installed at the dumping site. While some cameras were found to be non-functional, several crucial documents were also discovered to be missing from the premises. Expressing his displeasure over this matter, the Mayor ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the entire episode.

He directed that, in the interest of maintaining transparency, all cameras must be restored to working order and the records subjected to regular scrutiny. Furthermore, he ordered that accountability be fixed for the missing documents and that the concerned officials be asked to provide an explanation.

Directives to Prepare an Action Plan Within 24 Hours

The Mayor has instructed officials to formulate a comprehensive action plan for waste disposal within 24 hours. He emphasized that the work must be executed in strict adherence to scientific and environmental standards to ensure that such issues do not recur in the future.

Additionally, instructions were issued to monitor the work on a daily basis and to prepare regular progress reports. The Mayor expressed confidence that the dumping ground would be completely cleared within the designated timeframe.
