    Heavy rain lashes Chandigarh for 3rd day; Sukhna Lake nears danger mark

    Chandigarh, August 2: On Saturday, it has been raining continuously for the third consecutive day in Chandigarh, due to which the people of the city have to face a lot of trouble. The water level of Sukhna Lake has also reached close to the danger mark and is now just one foot below.

    The rain is not continuous but is intermittent, due to which people are facing difficulties in leaving their homes and commuting. Vikas, a resident of Sector-40, said that as soon as he leaves the house, heavy rain suddenly starts in the other sector.

    The weather department has issued a yellow alert for the next four days and has predicted heavy rains with thunderstorms. Also, the possibility of more than normal rainfall has been predicted in August and September.

    On Friday too, it rained intermittently throughout the day, due to which the weather remained cool and pleasant and a drop of 2 degrees was recorded in the temperature.

    Minimum temperature 25.6 degree Celsius

    According to the Meteorological Department, 6.6 ml of rain was recorded from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm on Friday, while a total of 9.7 ml (about 1 cm) of rain fell in 24 hours. On Friday, the maximum temperature was 31.2 degrees and the minimum temperature was 25.6 degrees Celsius, which was one degree less than normal.

    The Meteorological Department said that since June 1, a total of 480.5 mm i.e. about 48 cm of rain has fallen in the city, which is considered good for the monsoon season.

    Above normal rainfall in August-September

    According to the map released by the Meteorological Department, most parts of North India including Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh may receive more than normal rainfall in August and September. This news is good for farmers, as it will benefit Kharif crops and farming work will be done easily. The trend of rain is expected to remain strong in August.

    Intermittent rain on Saturday, maximum temperature 31 degrees, minimum 25 degrees.

    Possibility of rain and thunderstorms on Sunday. Maximum temperature 31 degrees, minimum 25 degrees.
