Panic at Chandigarh Petrol Pump After Security Guard Fires Warning Shot During Dispute With Two Youths

Chandigarh: Panic erupted at a petrol pump in Sector 38 West, Chandigarh, around 10 pm on Friday after a security guard fired a warning shot into the air with his licensed pistol during a dispute over reopening the closed fuel station. The sound of the gunshot alarmed nearby residents, prompting police to rush to the spot.

After receiving information about the incident, the Maloya police reached the petrol pump and launched an investigation. A case has been registered against two youths. One of them has been identified as Sachin, while efforts are underway to ascertain the identity of the second accused. Police have also secured CCTV footage from the petrol pump as part of the investigation.

Two Youths Demanded Fuel After Closing Hours

According to the police, the petrol pump in Sector 38 West had closed at its scheduled time on Friday night. Shortly afterwards, two youths arrived on a motorcycle and demanded that the security guard allow them to refuel their vehicle.

The security guard informed them that the petrol pump had closed for the day and would reopen at its scheduled time the following morning. However, the youths allegedly continued insisting that the pump be reopened and reportedly pressured the guard to allow them to refuel.

The guard reportedly tried to reason with the youths several times, but they refused to leave. An argument soon broke out between the two sides. As the situation escalated, the security guard drew his licensed pistol and fired a warning shot into the air. Startled by the gunshot, both youths fled the scene on their motorcycle.

Police Examining CCTV Footage

Police reached the spot immediately after being alerted and questioned the petrol pump staff as well as the security guard. CCTV footage from the premises has been seized to determine the exact sequence of events. During the investigation, police identified one of the accused as Sachin, while efforts are continuing to identify and trace the second youth.
