Work Halted in Himachal’s Chanju-3 Project: Employees Angry Over Two Months of Unpaid Wages

Workers on Friday stopped work at the 48 MW Chanju-3 hydroelectric project in the Churah area of Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh. Employees, upset over continuous delays in salary payments for the past two months, have warned that work will remain completely halted until the pending payments are released.

Workers allege that the contractor company ACNC has not yet paid them salaries for March and April. Employees said that previously they used to receive their salaries before the 20th of every month, but due to non-payment over the past two months, they are facing a financial crisis. In addition, last year’s dues, leave, and bonuses are also pending.

Employees Submitted Memorandum to Project Manager

In the memorandum submitted to the project manager, the employees stated that not receiving salaries has made it difficult to support their families. It is directly affecting their children’s education, groceries, and daily needs. They alleged that despite several discussions with the company management, only assurances have been given, but no concrete action has been taken regarding the payments.

Demand for Salary During Strike Period as Well

The workers have warned that if the pending salaries and other payments are not released soon, the movement will be intensified. They have also demanded that employees be paid for the strike period. Copies of the memorandum have also been sent to the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) Churah, Deputy Commissioner Chamba, Labour Officer Chamba, Station House Officer Tissa, and Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited management.
