Char Dham Yatra: Pilgrims Advised Caution Amid Bad Weather

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand administration has appealed to pilgrims and tourists visiting the Char Dham Yatra to remain cautious and travel safely due to the possibility of heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions in several parts of the hill state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for May 12 and 13, warning of rain and unstable weather, particularly in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand.

Pilgrims Advised to Monitor Weather Updates

Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey urged devotees to stay updated about weather conditions before and during their journey. He advised pilgrims to plan their travel carefully and avoid unnecessary movement during periods of severe weather.

Officials also recommended postponing travel plans if conditions worsen and asked visitors to strictly follow instructions issued by district administrations and local authorities.

Government Ensuring Safe and Smooth Yatra

The Uttarakhand government said all necessary preparations are being made to ensure that the Char Dham Yatra remains safe, smooth, and well-organised. Instructions have been issued to concerned departments to maintain proper arrangements along the pilgrimage routes.

Authorities expressed confidence that with cooperation from pilgrims and timely precautions, the yatra can continue safely despite weather-related challenges.

Early Warning System Strengthened

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand has also strengthened its disaster preparedness measures with the successful testing of a Cell Broadcasting System developed by the National Disaster Management Authority and Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT).

The technology will allow authorities to send emergency warning alerts directly to mobile users located in specific geographical areas during disasters and extreme weather events.

Focus on Pilgrim Safety

The administration has reiterated its commitment to pilgrim safety and urged visitors to remain vigilant, especially in landslide-prone and high-altitude areas during the ongoing pilgrimage season.
