New Assembly Building Hosts Winter Session

The Winter Session 2025 opened in the newly constructed Chhattisgarh Assembly building, with sessions scheduled from December 14 to 17. This marks one of the first major sittings in the updated digital, paperless legislative space designed to enhance efficiency.

Opposition Congress Boycotts Opening Day

The Congress legislative party decided to boycott the first day’s proceedings, citing disagreement with the focus on “Vision 2047” as the sole agenda item. Leader of Opposition Dr. Charan Das Mahant said the decision reflects concerns that pressing public issues are being sidelined in favour of long-term vision talks.

Congress leaders argued that urgent problems facing citizens, including unemployment and food security, should take priority over broad vision discussions, dubbing the Vision 2047 focus a “rented dream” that does not address everyday challenges.

First Day Without Regular Business

As a result of the boycott, regular legislative business such as Question Hour and motions did not take place on the first day. Instead, the House witnessed only limited attendance from ruling party members for the scheduled Vision 2047 debate.

Legislative Agenda for Session

Across four days, legislators have collectively submitted 628 questions, including both starred and unstarred queries, to be addressed during the session. Key issues expected to be discussed include law and order, paddy procurement, land rates, electricity bills and other matters of public interest.

Opposition Criticism and Political Friction

Political friction is expected to continue as the session progresses. Opposition leaders have signaled plans to raise questions on governance and development issues, while the ruling party has defended its agenda as forward-looking and beneficial for the state’s long-term growth.
