Demining Drive Gains Momentum in Chhattisgarh After Naxal-Free India Declaration

Bastar, Chhattisgarh: In the wake of the center’s declaration of a “Naxal-free India” on March 31, 2026, security forces have intensified large-scale demining operations across previously insurgency-affected regions, marking a crucial step toward restoring normalcy and ensuring safe movement for civilians.

Security Forces Launch Large-Scale IED Detection Operations

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), District Reserve Guard (DRG) of Chhattisgarh Police, along with other security agencies, have launched a sustained campaign to detect and neutralise improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted during years of Naxal activity.

Officials said the operations are being carried out across national highways, state roads, and interior routes that were once considered high-risk zones.

Intelligence Inputs and Advanced Technology in Use

Jitendra Kumar, Commandant of CRPF 80 Battalion, said the demining drive is being guided by intelligence inputs, including information from surrendered Naxals.

Security forces are using drones, compact detection devices, K9 dog squads, and tractor-mounted equipment to scan and clear dangerous zones. Authorities said drones are deployed first to identify threats before ground operations begin.

Mission Mode Clearance for Safe Public Movement

Officials said the demining process, earlier routine, has now been intensified in “mission mode” following the Naxal-free declaration. The focus is on clearing legacy threats and making roads safe for public use without security cover.

They added that inputs from former cadres have helped identify vulnerable locations, while coordinated efforts across multiple battalions continue in forested and remote areas.

Security forces described the drive as a key post-conflict initiative aimed at restoring normal life, improving connectivity, and supporting development in former Left-Wing Extremism-affected regions.
