Chilled April in Punjab as rain brings temp down, Alert Issued for Hailstorm and Thunderstorm Today

The weather patterns in Punjab and Chandigarh have shifted. Even in the month of April, the chill feels reminiscent of February. Due to intermittent rainfall since Tuesday, the maximum temperature has dropped by 5.1 degrees, falling to a level 8.7 degrees below normal. Consequently, a distinct chill is being felt in the air.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for today (April 8), warning of rain, hailstorms, and gusty winds. The highest temperature 28.5 degrees, was recorded in Bathinda. The temperature profile has effectively reverted to that of February, a month when temperatures typically hover between 28 and 29 degrees. The weather is expected to remain clear starting April 9 and continuing for the following week.

Alert Issued for Several Areas Until 8:30 AM

At 8:00 AM, the Meteorological Department issued an alert for rain and gusty winds affecting several areas until 8:30 AM. During this period, moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected to sweep across Sunam, Sangrur, Malerkotla, Moonak, Patran, Samana, Patiala, Nabha, Rajpura, Dera Bassi, Fatehgarh Sahib, Amloh, Mohali, Bassi Pathana, Khanna, Payal, Kharar, Khamanon, Chamkaur Sahib, and Samrala.

Winds are expected to reach speeds of 40 to 60 km/h, and there is a possibility of lightning strikes. Meanwhile, lightning and strong winds are forecast for Sardulgarh, Budhlada, Lehra, Mansa, Sunam, Sangrur, Barnala, Tapa, Dhuri, Malerkotla, Moonak, Patran, Nabha, Dera Bassi, Mohali, Talwandi Sabo, Malout, Bathinda, Rampura Phul, Khanna, Payal, Chandigarh, Kharar, Khamanon, Ludhiana (East and West), Chamkaur Sahib, Samrala, Rupnagar, Bagha Purana, Moga, Shahkot, Sultanpur Lodhi, Nihal Singh Wala, Raikot, Jagraon, Phillaur, Nakodar, Phagwara, Jalandhar (I and II), Kapurthala, Balachaur, Nawanshahr, Anandpur Sahib, Garhshankar, Nangal, Hoshiarpur, Bhulath, and Dasuya.

Possibility of Hailstorms in Five Districts

According to the Meteorological Department, a rain alert has been issued for 22 districts of the state today. However, during this period, there is a possibility of thunderstorms and hailstorms in five specific districts. These districts include Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, and Mohali.

Meanwhile, the remaining 13 districts Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Patiala, Moga, Bathinda, and Barnala are likely to experience thunder, lightning, and strong winds (ranging from 30 to 40 km/h).
