Chilled winds in Plains: Rain alert in 6 districts of Punjab; Dense fog in 16 districts

The snowfall in the mountains is affecting the plains of Punjab. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for dense fog in 16 districts for two consecutive days (today and tomorrow). Light to moderate rain is also expected in six districts today, including Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, and SAS Nagar (Mohali).

A yellow alert for dense fog has been issued for parts of Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, and Sangrur. The change in weather has resulted in a drop of 8.9 degrees Celsius in the maximum temperature. This is 4.1 degrees Celsius below normal.

In the last 24 hours, the maximum temperature in all districts ranged from 11.4 degrees Celsius to 20.2 degrees Celsius. Similarly, the minimum temperature was recorded between 8.5 degrees Celsius and 14.5 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature of 8.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Gurdaspur.

Meanwhile, rain and thunderstorms caused damage in Punjab and Chandigarh on Friday. A young man died due to electrocution. Several houses also suffered roof collapses. In Gurdaspur, more than 8,000 chicks died after lightning struck a poultry farm. In Chandigarh, three children were injured when a house collapsed.

It also rained in Mohali during the night. Several areas here have been without electricity for 24 hours. People’s mobile phones and inverters have stopped working. Residents say that their daily routines have been disrupted due to the power outage. The administration should pay attention to this.

Weather to change again from the 26th
According to the Meteorological Department, moisture from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal is currently reaching Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh, leading to rainfall activity. This has caused a drop in temperature over the past 24 hours.
