China Does Not Desist from Mischievous Acts

No matter how friendly China may appear to India, it continues to engage in hostile actions on India’s borders. Indian and Chinese armies remain locked in a confrontation on the eastern Ladakh border. Despite dozens of talks between Indian and Chinese military commanders and a renewed openness of communication between the two countries’ leaders, the situation on the border has not improved significantly.

India maintains over 200,000 troops along the Chinese border to prevent any mischief. While documents state that both countries should follow a “status quo ante” policy instead of a standoff, this is not the reality.

The issue isn’t limited to the Ladakh border; it concerns every border region where India shares its border with China. China is constantly engaged in construction within its borders, which is understandable to India. China has always asserted its claim over Arunachal Pradesh. It doesn’t hesitate to call Arunachal Pradesh “Little Tibet.” For quite some time, China has renamed several areas of Arunachal Pradesh in Chinese to show that these areas are under Chinese ownership. However, changing the names won’t help, as these areas are under Indian control. China can reclaim these areas at any time. China has just pulled off another mischief. It is establishing counties in specific areas along the border with India, from Arunachal Pradesh to Aksai Chin. China had previously established two counties. China has now established another county in Aksai Chin.

Of course, such actions raise serious suspicions for India. In such a situation, India cannot blindly trust China. Given the current climate, where rumors are circulating that China is secretly aiding Iran in the ongoing US-Iranian war, India’s attempts to improve relations with China would be a strange proposition. China, with its “Rama Ram” (sacred words) and a knife in its side, openly expresses its desire to improve relations with India, but indirectly, it sometimes pats the back of terrorist masters in Pakistan and sometimes renames Indian territories near the India-China border according to its own language to exert pressure on India.

In this context, India will have to think hard to manage its situation. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has also said that China’s fabricated naming of Indian territories and setting false narratives are undermining efforts to normalize relations between India and China. This creates a lack of understanding between us.

Therefore, China should refrain from such actions. We believe that, on the other hand, there are certain trade compulsions due to which we have to maintain a cordial tone in our trade relations with China. India imports a lot of raw materials for its industries from China. Indian exports are much less than Chinese imports, but this cannot be ignored. Both countries have trade compulsions. Ideally, India should become stronger militarily and diplomatically without trusting China.
