49 Hospitalised After Chlorine Gas Leak at Jhabua Plant, Situation Under Control

Bhopal/Thandla (Jhabua): A chlorine gas leak occurred at a gas filtration plant in Thandla town of Jhabua district on Friday morning due to a technical malfunction, affecting plant employees and nearby residents.

The incident caused panic as several people reported breathing difficulties, irritation in the eyes and throat, and anxiety. Prompt action by the district administration brought the situation under control.

Rescue Teams and Medical Response
A high-level rescue team, including Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bhaskar Gachle, Chief Municipal Officer Kamlesh Jaiswal, and District Commandant S.D. Pillai, rushed to the spot. Technical support was provided by an industrial unit from Meghnagar, while an expert team from Indore arrived to assess plant safety.

According to the Block Medical Officer, an initial 20–25 people were hospitalised with breathing issues. Following a door-to-door health survey, more individuals with mild symptoms were identified and placed under observation.

Currently, 49 patients are undergoing treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

Leak Contained, Plant Shut for Inspection
The District Collector confirmed that the leak was caused by a technical malfunction and has since been contained. The plant has been temporarily shut down for a detailed safety inspection.

Officials stated that there is no further risk to the public, and all affected individuals are receiving proper medical care.

Residents Demand Probe, Administration Assures Support
Local residents expressed relief over the swift response but called for a thorough investigation into the cause of the leak and stricter safety measures.

The district administration has assured full support to affected families and urged people to remain calm.
