Choose Only Authorised Hajj Operators, Urges Kiren Rijiju

New Delhi, Dec 13: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has issued a strong advisory urging Indian Hajj pilgrims to choose only government-authorized operators for the annual pilgrimage. He cautioned that engaging unauthorized or unregistered agents could expose pilgrims to financial fraud, logistical failures, and legal difficulties during Hajj.

The minister said the advisory is aimed at ensuring a safe, dignified, and hassle-free pilgrimage, especially for elderly pilgrims and first-time travellers.

Rising Complaints Against Unauthorized Agents

Rijiju noted that every year authorities receive multiple complaints from pilgrims who fall prey to fake or unauthorized Hajj operators promising cheaper packages.

Such operators often fail to meet required standards, resulting in:

• Poor or non-existent accommodation

• Lack of transportation arrangements

• Missing or invalid documentation

• Absence of medical or emergency support

In some cases, pilgrims have reportedly been stranded in Saudi Arabia without proper assistance.

Importance of Choosing Approved Operators

The minister stressed that only authorized Hajj operators are permitted to function under Indian government guidelines and Saudi Arabian regulations. These operators are required to meet strict criteria related to safety, accommodation quality, transportation, and pilgrim welfare.

Pilgrims were advised to verify operator credentials through official government platforms before making any payments or commitments.

Government Monitoring and Coordination

Rijiju highlighted that the Indian government closely monitors Hajj arrangements in coordination with Saudi authorities to ensure compliance with international norms.

He added that authorized operators are held accountable for their services, which helps ensure better grievance redressal and protection of pilgrims’ rights in case of any issues.
