CJP Demands Release of Detained Protesters, Withdrawal of FIRs; Says ‘Breach of Trust’ Unacceptable

New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday urged the Centre to immediately release students and protesters detained during the nationwide agitation over the alleged NEET paper leak and withdraw FIRs registered against them, saying the government must honour its assurance that no punitive action would be taken.

The statement comes two days after the CJP suspended its nationwide protest following the Centre’s acceptance of several key demands, including the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and assurances that no action would be taken against protesters.

CJP urges Centre to honour its assurance

In a post on X, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said the party had received reports of students and protesters being detained or arrested in Assam, West Bengal and Bihar.

He appealed to the Centre, particularly Union Ministers J.P. Nadda and Jitendra Singh, to ensure the immediate release of those detained and prevent any coercive or retaliatory action against protesters.

Das also demanded the withdrawal of FIRs registered against participants in the movement and reminded the government of its commitment to provide a written guarantee by July 28.

He said the party had suspended the agitation in good faith based on the government’s assurances and warned that any deviation from those commitments would amount to a breach of trust with both the CJP and lakhs of young Indians who chose dialogue over continued protests.

Protest called off after Centre accepted key demands

The CJP, led by Abhijeet Dipke, had launched a large-scale protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, demanding the resignation of the then Union Education Minister over the alleged NEET paper leak.

The agitation intensified during the party’s ‘Sansad Chalo’ march towards Parliament on July 20, when clashes broke out between protesters and the Delhi Police.

The protest was called off on July 25 after the Centre accepted several demands raised by the organisation. These included the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, withdrawal of cases against protesters, compensation for families of students who allegedly died by suicide in connection with the controversy, and discussions on broader reforms to the examination system.

CJP has now urged the government to implement those assurances without delay, stating that any failure to do so would undermine public confidence in the commitments made during the negotiations.
