New Delhi: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on Wednesday announced its support to the INDIA Bloc’s November 1 rally. The rally will be held amid demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and questions being raised about the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
In its statement, the CJP alleged that the SIR process has raised serious concerns about the removal of eligible voters from the electoral rolls. The organization said that the fundamental principle of democracy is that the people elect their government, not the government deciding who can vote.
Demand for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation
The CJP said that the SIR process has undermined the necessary trust in Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to fulfill his responsibility of conducting free and fair elections. According to the organization, Kumar’s resignation is necessary to restore the credibility and independence of the Election Commission.
Expressing concern over the possibility of eligible citizens’ names being removed from the voter list, the CJP stated that the objective of the electoral process should be to facilitate citizens’ right to vote, not to create obstacles for them.
Cited Ambedkar and the principles of the Constitution
In its statement, the CJP cited the contributions of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Jawaharlal Nehru, and the founding fathers of the Constitution. The organization said that the founding fathers reposed faith in the public even when millions of people in the country had never participated in elections before.
According to the CJP, the objective of universal adult suffrage was to include as many citizens as possible in the democratic process. The organization stated that the political participation of every adult citizen, regardless of caste, religion, gender, education, or economic status, is crucial to democracy.
The organization stated that the Election Commission’s responsibility is to protect the right to vote of every eligible citizen. It also stated that no eligible citizen should be deprived of their right to vote.
Support for organizations fighting for fair elections
The CJP stated that it would support organizations working for free and fair elections in the country. The organization concluded its statement with slogans of “Jai Bhim” and “Jai Hind.”
The INDIA Bloc’s November 1 rally is scheduled at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. Opposition parties are demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner over the SIR process and alleged electoral irregularities. However, the CJP statement did not clarify whether the organization’s leaders would personally attend the rally.
Allegations of irregularities in the voter list and the deletion of eligible voters have been made by the CJP and the opposition. These should be viewed as claims, not as independently proven facts.
