New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has directed all states and Union Territories to coordinate with Delhi Police and take preventive measures to stop Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protesters from mobilising towards Delhi for a demonstration scheduled at Jantar Mantar on October 10.
The protest was called to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
MHA Orders Preventive Measures and Intelligence Sharing
In a communication to the Directors General of Police (DGPs) of all states and Union Territories, the Ministry called for immediate preventive action amid concerns that CJP supporters could attempt to enter the national capital without authorisation.
The MHA directed state and UT intelligence agencies, border and transit authorities, and Delhi Police to maintain continuous, real-time intelligence sharing to prevent unauthorised mobilisation and maintain law and order.
The Union Home Secretary described the proposed gathering as a matter with serious law and order implications. The Ministry said the request to hold the protest had been rejected and the proposed assembly prohibited by the authorities.
MHA Cites Previous Incidents and Supreme Court Order
The Ministry referred to a 2018 Supreme Court order and stressed that established protocols for assemblies in the designated area must be followed.
It also alleged that previous mobilisations involving CJP supporters and affiliated groups had caused public order disruptions and damage to public and private property. Citing intelligence inputs, the MHA warned that supporters might attempt to defy the prohibition and enter Delhi from different states and Union Territories.
The Ministry directed states and UTs to coordinate with Delhi Police and implement immediate preventive measures within the framework of the law to prevent any breach of public peace and safeguard critical infrastructure.
Train Cancellations Disrupt Passengers’ Travel
Amid heightened security arrangements, several trains were cancelled on Saturday, causing inconvenience to passengers travelling to different destinations.
Passengers at railway stations reported difficulties, with some forced to change their travel plans at short notice.
