New Delhi: The Delhi Police has proposed closing the entry and exit gates of 57 metro stations in the capital and reducing the frequency of trains at these stations in view of the proposed protests on Saturday (October 10). An official letter has been sent by the Delhi Police to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in this regard.
Police preparations for the protest at Jantar Mantar
In a letter written on Thursday, the Joint Commissioner of the Transport Range of Delhi Police requested the DMRC to take necessary steps at identified metro stations. The letter stated that there is a possibility of uncontrolled crowds moving towards sensitive areas during the proposed protests at Jantar Mantar and other locations in the New Delhi district.
The CJP has announced a youth-led protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10 on the issue of alleged ‘vote theft’.
Restrictions may begin at 9 p.m. Friday
According to the police proposal, restrictions at metro stations may begin at 9 p.m. Friday and continue until the situation returns to normal on October 10th. The police have also requested DMRC officials and staff to issue necessary instructions to implement these proposed measures.
The 57 metro stations mentioned in the letter include Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Janpath, New Delhi, Mandi House, ITO, Supreme Court, Indraprastha, Kashmere Gate, Karol Bagh, INA, Hauz Khas, Lajpat Nagar, Jamia Millia Islamia, Seelampur, Welcome, Shahdara, Rithala, Rohini East, and Rohini West, among others.
However, the Delhi Police letter only proposes these measures. It does not confirm whether the DMRC has approved or implemented the closure of gates or reduced train frequency.
Abhijeet Dipke claims – Several activists detained ahead of protest
Meanwhile, CJP activist Abhijeet Dipke claimed that several activists across the country have been detained ahead of the October 10 protest. He stated that despite this, he will march to Jantar Mantar.
Posting on the social media platform X, Dipke wrote, “The BJP government has detained thousands of youth across the country ahead of our October 10 protest. Modi, this attempt at intimidation will not work. The youth of the country are no longer afraid of you. I will reach Delhi tomorrow and march to Jantar Mantar at all costs.”
