Clash Between Two Factions in Ludhiana; Bricks and Stones Hurled over rivalry

Late Sunday night, a clash erupted between two groups in Sanjay Gandhi Colony, located on Tajpur Road in Ludhiana, stemming from an old rivalry. The situation escalated significantly; initially, bricks, stones, and bottles were hurled, and subsequently, one of the groups opened fire. The altercation between the two factions continued for approximately half an hour.

Terrified by the gunfire, residents retreated into their homes and alerted the police. Gagandeep Singh, the SHO (Station House Officer) of Police Division No. 7, arrived at the scene. However, by the time he reached the spot, one of the parties involved had already fled. Women from Sanjay Gandhi Colony provided the police with details regarding the incident.

Two Spent Cartridges Recovered During Investigation

During their investigation, the police recovered two spent bullet cartridges. Residents claim that the individuals who came to attack the colony fired four to five rounds. Fortunately, no one was struck by the bullets.

Dispute Stemmed from Broken Car Windows

The women stated that a few days earlier, their children had broken the car windows belonging to members of the opposing group. At that time, they had paid for the replacement of the windows, and a mutual settlement had been reached between both parties. Acting on this lingering grudge, a group of approximately 40 to 50 individuals arrived and began hurling bricks and stones. The women further alleged that the accused threw bottles into their homes and threatened to set their houses on fire.

Bricks and Stones Hurled in Retaliation

Local residents recounted that when the attackers began throwing bricks and stones in the street, the locals also stepped out and began throwing bricks and stones in return to drive them away. The residents allege that the attackers then proceeded to open fire. Following the gunfire, the terrified neighborhood residents retreated back indoors.

Attackers Arrived to Avenge Afternoon Assault

Police investigations have revealed that the root cause of the dispute lies in a long-standing feud. A persistent tension has existed for some time between two youths residing in the same locality Ashish and Grewal. On Sunday afternoon, the two crossed paths, during which Grewal brutally assaulted Ashish.

During this altercation, Ashish sustained a severe injury to his leg. To avenge the beating he received in the afternoon, Ashish gathered 25 to 30 associates at night and, armed with weapons, stormed Grewal’s house in Sanjay Gandhi Colony.
