Clear Weather in Punjab and Chandigarh Until April 15; Mornings-Evenings chilled

The spell of rain and thunderstorms that persisted in Punjab and Chandigarh over the past few days has now come to an end. According to the Meteorological Department, the weather is expected to remain clear and dry until April 15, and no alerts regarding rain or thunderstorms of any kind have been issued. Meanwhile, temperatures have begun to rise gradually, although a distinct chill can still be felt during the mornings and nights.

Compared to yesterday, a rise of 2.8 degrees Celsius was recorded in the maximum temperature today; however, it still remains 4.8 degrees Celsius below normal levels.

Within the state, the lowest maximum temperature, 26.4 degrees Celsius, was recorded in Hoshiarpur and Amritsar, while Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 28 degrees Celsius.

Western Disturbance to Become Active from the 15th

The Western Disturbance currently influencing the weather in North India is active over Jammu and surrounding regions, creating a possibility of cloudy skies, light rain, and snowfall in the hilly areas. Additionally, an upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over northwest Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. High-speed winds at high altitudes (Jet Streams) are further intensifying these weather systems. According to the Meteorological Department, a new Western Disturbance is likely to impact the Western Himalayan region starting April 15, potentially leading to a change in weather conditions there.

Fazilka Records Highest Rainfall at 56.8 mm

Between April 1 and April 9, 2026, Punjab recorded rainfall significantly higher than normal levels. During this period, the average rainfall stood at 25.6 mm, whereas the normal figure for this time of year is typically 4.1 mm.

Consequently, the state recorded a rainfall surplus of 525 percent. According to district-wise statistics, Fazilka recorded the highest rainfall at 56.8 mm, while Hoshiarpur recorded the lowest at 4.4 mm.

Temperatures to Rise by Up to 8 Degrees Over Five Days

According to Surender Pal, Director of the Chandigarh Meteorological Department, the weather is expected to remain dry in the coming days. Additionally, the maximum temperature is likely to rise by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius over the next five days, causing people to start feeling the heat once again.
