CM Bhagwant Mann to meet HM Amit Shah tomorrow; distribute relief cheques from Oct 15

Today is the second and final day of the special session of the Punjab Assembly called by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to discuss the floods. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is currently speaking in the Assembly.

The Chief Minister announced that he will meet Home Minister Amit Shah tomorrow evening. He added that Diwali is on October 20th and by October 15th, he will begin distributing cheques to people as compensation for losses to crops, livestock, and other items.

Earlier, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema, while targeting the opposition, said that the Leader of the Opposition had purchased land within the Dhussi Dam. Cheema aslo sought an explanation from him as to why he felt the need to purchase land within the dam.

In response, Pratap Bajwa stated that the land was acquired from the owner by paying government fees. Bajwa stated that Minister Cheema collects ₹1.25 crore from each distillery. He collects ₹35 to 40 crore from distilleries alone every month.

AAP minister Hardeep Singh Mundian, speaking about his meeting with PM Modi, said, “When he announced 1600 crore rupees, I stood up and said it was too little. Modi arrogantly replied, “I don’t know Hindi.” The minister added that the govt would also compensate for the loss of sheep, goats, and chickens.

Earlier, Minister Aman Arora said, “Our ministers continued to work during the floods. However, when COVID-19 struck, the Congress minister posted a sign outside his house stating that he would not hold public meetings.”

Meanwhile, in the House, AAP MLA from Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdas Randhawa, and Congress MLA Aruna Chaudhary clashed over the Sakke drain. Randhawa said that he never raised the issue of the drain. Aruna Chaudhary responded, “Create an assembly committee. Have it investigate, and the truth will be revealed.”
