Punjab Desk: The Punjab Government’s unique initiative “CM di Yogshala” has not only transformed the state’s health landscape but has also become a shining example of the peoplecentric governance model of the Aam Aadmi Party–led Bhagwant Mann administration. Inspired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s vision, the project is turning yoga into a lifestyle rather than just an exercise, helping citizens fight modern-day ailments such as stress, obesity, diabetes, and hypertension.
The scheme is proving to be a milestone in building a drug-free and fitter Punjab. One of the strongest indicators of this programme’s success is its unprecedented expansion. Within just one year, the government implemented it in four phases. Started in April 2023 across four major cities with over 100 instructors and more than 500 classes, the initiative expanded by June 2023 to nine cities, attracting more than 50,000 participants.
In January 2024, its third phase covered all urban areas with 1,500 instructors, while the fourth phase in March 2024 extended it to villages and block-level communities. Today, the programme has reached all 23 districts and 146 blocks a symbol of the government’s strong administrative will and efficient grassroots implementation. The biggest impact of CM di Yogshala is visible in the health of the people of Punjab.
Thousands of participants have shared remarkable improvements in their well-being. Many have reported relief from chronic back pain, cervical issues, knee pain, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Others have experienced enhanced sleep quality, higher energy levels, and significant reductions in stress and anxiety.
The initiative is also strengthening Punjab’s social fabric. Its widespread reach in rural areas has particularly empowered women and senior citizens, who now have access to health benefits close to home. The programme has been strategically aligned with the state’s anti-drug campaign, offering youth a positive and mentally strengthening alternative, thereby helping create a more harmonious society.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, CM di Yogshala has emerged as a symbol of positive change in people’s lives. It is a “preventive health revolution” that promotes wellness, creates employment, and encourages social unity.
The initiative is not only improving the lives of Punjabis but also presenting a successful public-health model for the entire nation. For this visionary effort, the Punjab government truly deserves appreciation. The popularity of this programme speaks for itself.
Today, nearly 2 lakh citizens across Punjab participate in these free yoga sessions daily an impressive rise from 1 lakh participants in March 2025. Over 4,581 yoga centres conduct sessions every morning and evening. This widespread participation proves that people have wholeheartedly embraced the initiative, turning it into a “mass movement” that is guiding Punjab towards a healthier and happier future.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s vision is clearly reflected in the dual purpose of this programme. It not only strengthens the physical and mental well-being of citizens but also generates significant employment opportunities for the youth.
The government has appointed 2,630 certified yoga instructors under this scheme, offering Punjab’s youth a respectable career path and a meaningful direction. The programme has been designed to be extremely simple and accessible for all. Any citizen can form a group and request the government to send a free yoga instructor to their locality. The government promptly assigns a trained instructor, who conducts classes in parks, community halls, or public spaces—making this initiative a perfect model of “healthcare at your doorstep,” completely free of cost.
