Amritsar: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann arrived in Amritsar today to distribute compensation to flood-affected families at the Bhala Pind Sugar Mill in Ajnala. CM Mann took a dig at Navjot Singh Sidhu from the stage.
CM Bhagwant Mann said, “It’s not known when Navjot Singh Sidhu will leave politics and when he’ll return. Now that he has nothing left, he’ll dust off Punjab’s agenda from the files. Politics isn’t a 9-to-5 job where you come and go as you please. I say, come, definitely, but only when Punjab needs you. Returning just before elections isn’t a service.”
Punjab Chief Minister Mann said during his speech
•Punjab Chief Minister Mann said during his speech that today there are 631 beneficiary farmers who are being compensated for their homes and crops. The assessment of the remaining (livestock) is ongoing, and that will also be done. And any other losses incurred—such as de-silting and the need for funds for soil removal—will also be compensated.
•Mann said that for the first time in the history of the country, a cheque of compensation of Rs 20 thousand per acre is being given today.
•3,200 government schools were reduced to rubble, 8,500 kilometers of roads were destroyed, nearly 2,500 bridges, large and small, were damaged, 19 colleges and hospitals were destroyed—the loss of livestock and livestock is simply unimaginable. Lives were lost, 500,000 acres of crops were damaged, and in many places, rivers washed away land.
•A total of Rs 5.70 crore is being distributed today, starting from the sugar mill located at Bhala Pind in Ajnala, out of which Rs 3.84 crore will be given for houses, Rs 1.16 crore for crops and Rs 73 lakh for animals.
farmers are protesting
Farmers’ organizations are also expressing their displeasure during CM Mann’s visit. Members of the organizations are gathering in large numbers to express their demands. They want to question the Chief Minister regarding their demands. Sarwan Singh Pandher, leader of the Farmer-Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, said, “We just want to ask questions, and that too peacefully. This is our democratic right.”
Promise to provide all possible help to the victims
Chief Minister Mann has previously visited the flood-affected areas and promised all possible assistance to the victims. He also made it clear that the state government will not abandon anyone in need. According to the Chief Minister, those whose homes have been destroyed and whose crops have been completely ruined should be provided with assistance.
Today’s event marks the first of those promises, when relief funds will be directly distributed to victims. Chief Minister Mann’s visit is not limited to relief distribution, but also a testament to the government’s sensitivity and down-to-earth approach. This day brings renewed hope to thousands of people who lost everything in the recent natural disaster.
