Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday addressed the State Assembly during the ongoing session on the occasion of the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, as the House unanimously passed a government resolution to honour the Sikh Guru’s supreme sacrifice.
Remembering a Historic Resolution
The Chief Minister recalled that in August 2025, the Haryana Assembly had unanimously resolved to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. He described Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s life and sacrifice as a symbol of the soul of Indian civilisation, highlighting how the Guru laid down his life for the protection of dharma, human dignity, and freedom of belief, without ever bowing before injustice or oppression.
CM Saini said the Haryana government, in collaboration with the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, organised numerous programmes across the state to mark the historic occasion. A multi-party meeting was convened in Chandigarh on November 3 to build consensus on commemorating the martyrdom day with collective participation.
Prime Minister Modi’s Participation and National Recognition
He highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a massive congregation on November 25 to pay tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. On the same day, the Prime Minister inaugurated the Mahabharata-themed Experience Centre and the Panchjanya Memorial, named after Lord Krishna’s sacred conch, during the International Gita Mahotsav. The Prime Minister later praised the Experience Centre during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address on November 30.
The Chief Minister further noted that Prime Minister Modi released a commemorative coin, postage stamp, and a coffee table book dedicated to Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Across Haryana, 350 blood donation camps were organised, collecting over 23,000 units of blood. Essay and story-writing competitions were held in schools, witnessing participation from more than 3.5 lakh students.
Several long-term initiatives were also announced, including the establishment of a Chair on Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s philosophy and works at Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa. The Government Polytechnic in Ambala has been renamed after Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. A large-scale ‘Hind Ki Chadar’ marathon was organised in Karnal, drawing over 80,000 participants.
State-level tributes were paid at Badkhalsa at the martyrdom site of Dada Kushal Singh Dahiya, who sacrificed his life while ensuring Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji’s sacred head reached Anandpur Sahib. The Chief Minister also remembered the unparalleled sacrifices of Bhai Jaita Ji, Bhai Dayala Ji, Bhai Sati Das Ji, and Bhai Mati Das Ji during various commemorative programmes.
New Announcements in Guru Ji’s Name
The government has decided to develop a forest in Kalesar, Yamunanagar, in the name of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, and announced the establishment of Guru Tegh Bahadur Agricultural College at Kishanpura in Yamunanagar district.
CM Saini thanked the people of Haryana, social organisations, and public representatives for their enthusiastic participation in the commemorative events. On behalf of nearly three crore citizens of Haryana and the Assembly, he expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership and support.
The Chief Minister requested the House to pass the government resolution unanimously, which was approved with consensus by all members of the Assembly.
