Uttarakhand Governemnt to  introduce UCC Bill today, ‘Momemt of Pride’, terms CM Dhami

Dehradun: Uttarakhand Governemnt led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will introduce Uniform Civil Code Bill Today in the state assembly. Giving this information on X, CM Dhami said, “With the aim of giving equal rights to the citizens of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, Uniform Civil Code Bill will be introduced in the Assembly today. It is a moment of pride for all the people of the state that we will be known as the first state in the country to move towards implementing UCC.”

With this move, Uttarakhand has become first state in the country to move towards implementing UCC in the state. As the CM will present UCC bill today, security arrangements have been beefed up outside the state assembly.

Today, on the second day of the Assembly session, the government will present the bill related to the Uniform Civil Code in the House.

In view of this important bill, in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the Assembly held on Monday, it was decided to postpone the Question Hour and Zero Hour today.

What is UCC?

Uniform Civil Code or UCC is set of legal provisions which apply on all citizens equally regardless of their religion, gender and sexual orientation. UCC tends to replace personal law, which are currently governed by religious scriptures of different communities.
