Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday strongly condemned the recent attacks on minority communities, saying such incidents pose a serious threat to India’s democratic and social unity.
He said that it is the shared responsibility of those in power and institutions to immediately and strictly curb elements spreading hatred.
Concern over rising violence during the festive season
In a statement released on the social media platform ‘X’, Stalin said that while the Prime Minister is attending Christmas celebrations, some right-wing violent groups are targeting minorities in the name of the majority community – this is a very worrying message for the country.
Citing incidents in states like Manipur, Jabalpur, and Raipur, he said this was unacceptable to any citizen who believed in peaceful coexistence and pluralism.
Claim of 74% increase in hate speech
Citing statistics, Stalin said that after the BJP government came to power at the center, there has been a 74% increase in hate speech against minorities, which is a “serious warning” for the future.
He reiterated that India’s true strength lies in mutual respect, equality before the law, and providing every citizen a dignified life without fear.
