Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath observed the age-old tradition of Kanya Pujan at the Gorakhnath Temple on Maha Navami of Shardiya Navratri, paying homage to Matri Shakti by worshipping nine girls, representing the nine forms of Goddess Durga.
Symbolic Gesture of Women Empowerment
The annual observance by CM Yogi highlights his faith in women’s power and his commitment to women’s dignity, safety, and empowerment. Over the years, he has translated this belief into action through various women-centric schemes in the state.
Rituals and Ceremonial Worship
During the ceremony, the Chief Minister:
Washed the feet of nine girls, draped them with ‘chunari’, performed aarti, and offered food with devotion
Sought blessings by giving gifts
Performed Batuk Pujan (worship of young boys)
Worshipped a six-month-old baby girl and took her blessings
Applied tilak to a boy dressed as Hanuman, garlanded him, and draped a cloth over his shoulders
Serving Prasadam and Interaction with Children
CM Yogi served freshly cooked prasadam to all girls and boys present. He also personally engaged with children while distributing gifts and dakshina, ensuring that no devotee faced any shortage.
Participation of Religious Leaders
The ceremony was attended by Jagadguru Swami Santoshacharya, also known as Satua Baba from Kashi, among other devotees.
Morning Worship at Shaktipeeth
Before the Kanya Pujan, the Chief Minister offered prayers to Goddess Siddhidatri at the temple’s Shaktipeeth during the morning puja session.
