Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday extended greetings to people on the second day of Shardiya Navratri, dedicated to Maa Brahmacharini, the second manifestation of Goddess Durga. He prayed that the goddess’s blessings would inspire patience, self-discipline and righteous conduct in everyone’s life.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister offered his respects to Maa Brahmacharini, who is worshipped on the second day of the nine-day festival dedicated to Goddess Durga.
“On the sacred occasion of Sharadiya Navratri, I offer countless salutations to Maa Brahmacharini, the second manifestation of Jagat Janani Maa Bhagwati. I pray that, through the grace of the Mother Goddess, who presides over penance, sacrifice and self-restraint, patience and righteous conduct may flourish in everyone’s life,” he wrote.
Maa Brahmacharini: The Goddess of Penance and Self-Discipline
Maa Brahmacharini is the second form of Goddess Durga worshipped during Navratri. Her name is associated with the practice of Brahmacharya, symbolising austerity, devotion, discipline and the pursuit of spiritual knowledge.
She is traditionally depicted walking barefoot, holding a japamala (rosary) in one hand and a kamandalu (water pot) in the other. The rosary represents prayer and devotion, while the kamandalu symbolises simplicity, restraint and a life devoted to spiritual discipline.
According to Hindu tradition, this form represents Goddess Parvati during her intense penance to win Lord Shiva as her consort. Her unwavering determination and devotion are regarded as symbols of patience, sacrifice and perseverance.
Devotees worship Maa Brahmacharini to seek strength, wisdom, peace of mind and the determination to overcome difficulties. Her message on the second day of Navratri centres on the belief that faith, self-control and sustained effort help individuals remain steadfast in the face of challenges.
CM Yogi Highlights Navratri’s Message of Righteousness
In a separate message to the people of Uttar Pradesh, CM Yogi extended his heartfelt greetings on Shardiya Navratri, describing it as a sacred festival celebrating the victory over Mahishasura and the worship of divine power.
“My respected people of the state, heartfelt best wishes to all of you on the sacred festival of Shardiya Navratri, which celebrates the victory over Mahishasura and the worship of divine power,” he wrote.
The Chief Minister said the nine forms of Goddess Durga embody the triumph of humility, courage, strength, determination, justice and righteousness over arrogance, obstinacy, attachment and growing negative tendencies.
“The spirit of the victory of humility, courage, strength, determination, justice and righteousness over arrogance, obstinacy, attachment and growing negative tendencies is embodied in the nine forms of the Mother Goddess. Even today, when society struggles against such tendencies, Navratri reminds us that goodness becomes truly effective only when it is backed by strength and determination,” he said.
Highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s cultural and social progress, CM Yogi said the state was emerging as a strong centre for the revival of faith, culture and traditions. He added that efforts were being made to ensure education, security and equal opportunities for daughters.
CM Yogi Calls for Women’s Safety and Empowerment
Moving beyond religious observances, the Chief Minister urged people to use the occasion to renew their commitment to women’s safety, girls’ education and women’s empowerment.
“Come, on this sacred occasion of Navratri, along with worship and fasting, let us also take a pledge to become the voice of any sister who needs protection, support a girl child’s education and stand by any woman on her path towards becoming self-reliant,” he said.
His appeal linked the festival’s message of strength and righteousness with the need for practical social responsibility, particularly in supporting women and girls.
