Cold wave alert for 3 days in eight districts of Punjab; Faridkot coldest

Cold weather will intensify in Punjab and Chandigarh from today (Tuesday). The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for a cold wave in the state for the next three days. While there has been a slight increase in the minimum temperature in the state over the past 24 hours, the cold winds from the mountains have kept the mornings and evenings chilly.

The minimum temperature has increased by 0.8 degrees Celsius, bringing it closer to normal. Faridkot and Gurdaspur both recorded a temperature of 4.5 degrees Celsius, making them the coldest places in the state.

Cold wave to prevail in 8 districts
According to the Meteorological Department, a Western Disturbance is responsible for this change. However, the temperature has risen during the day due to sunshine. A ​​cold wave alert has been issued for districts bordering Rajasthan today. These include Fazilka, Muktsar, Bathinda, Faridkot, Jalandhar, Moga, Mansa, and Ferozepur districts.

Chandigarh’s air still polluted
On the other hand, there has been a slight improvement in pollution levels. However, the AQI (Air Quality Index) in several cities is still above 100. At 6 AM, Amritsar’s AQI was recorded at 69, Jalandhar at 126, Khanna at 127, Ludhiana at 115, and Patiala at 122. The AQI for Rupnagar and Mandi Gobindgarh was not recorded. Similarly, in Chandigarh, Sector-22 recorded an AQI of 126, Sector-25 at 124, and Sector-53 at 121.
