Cold wave alert issued for 8 districts of Punjab; Adampur coldest at 2.8°C

A cold wave is currently sweeping across Punjab and Chandigarh. A yellow alert for a cold wave has been issued for eight districts of the state today. ​​As a result, night temperatures are also falling. The minimum temperature in the state has dropped by 0.2°C in the last 24 hours. It is now close to normal.

The lowest temperature in Punjab was recorded in Adampur, at 2.8°C, while the maximum temperature in Bathinda was 28.3°C. A cold wave alert is also in effect for Thursday. The Chandigarh administration has already issued an advisory to the public to protect themselves from the cold. A Western Disturbance is currently located near the Himalayas.

This is causing a slight change in wind patterns. A cold wave will prevail in Fazilka, Muktsar, Bathinda, Faridkot, Jalandhar, Moga, Mansa, and Ferozepur. Drivers also need to be alert in this changing weather. There will be no clouds on the Delhi-Ambala Highway and Ambala-Amritsar Highway today and on December 12. However, light clouds will be present on December 11.

Minimum Temperatures Below 10°C in Districts
According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in all districts except Patiala has been recorded below 10°C. Winds coming from Himachal Pradesh are affecting the weather. As a result, the minimum temperature in Ropar was recorded at 3.6°C. Similarly, the temperature in Chandigarh was recorded at 8.6°C; a decrease of 0.3°C. While in Amritsar it was 6.1°C, Ludhiana 9.2°C, Pathankot 5.6°C, Bathinda 5.8°C, Gurdaspur 3.8°C, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar 6.9°C, Faridkot 6.8°C, and Ferozepur 7.9°C.

Chandigarh’s Air More Polluted Than Punjab
At 6 AM, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Punjab was recorded at 89; Jalandhar recorded an AQI of 142, Khanna 142, Ludhiana 107, Mandi Gobindgarh 207, and Patiala 119. Similarly, Sector-22 in Chandigarh recorded an AQI of 212 and Sector-53 recorded an AQI of 154.
