Cold wave alert in Punjab-Chandigarh for next three days; Temperature drop, fog likely

The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for a cold wave in Punjab and Chandigarh for the next three days. Fog is also expected in many areas. The state’s minimum temperature has increased by 0.6 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, bringing temperatures closer to normal.

Pathankot and Bathinda were the coldest places, with a minimum temperature of 4.4 degrees Celsius. There is currently no rain warning.

Western Disturbance Active

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather will remain dry throughout the state today. A cold wave is expected in some areas of Faridkot, Ferozepur, Muktsar, Fazilka, Moga, and Jalandhar. Temperatures may drop further in the coming days. A western disturbance is active at an altitude of about 3 km in northern Pakistan.

Another system formed over Haryana has merged with it. Additionally, a mild cyclonic circulation is also present in the lower air surrounding Haryana. A new, but weak western disturbance may affect the western Himalayan regions from December 5th.

Sunshine in most cities, some relief

Bright sunshine in most cities of Punjab on Monday brought some relief from the cold. Despite this, the day temperature dropped by 0.3 degrees, remaining 1.9°C below normal. The highest temperature in the state was recorded at 26.4°C in Bathinda, while Fazilka recorded a maximum temperature of 24.9°C.
