Cold wave alert in 8 districts of Punjab, Faridkot remains coldest

The cold has increased in the mornings and evenings in Punjab and Chandigarh. In many districts, night temperatures are falling below those in Shimla. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow cold wave alert for today and tomorrow.

The minimum temperature in the state has dropped by 0.4 degrees Celsius, reaching close to normal. The lowest temperature in the state was recorded at 2.0°C in Faridkot, while the average maximum temperature was higher in Bathinda, at 27.1°C.

Cold Wave Alert in 8 Districts

According to the Meteorological Department, a western disturbance is persisting over Haryana, and its effects are being felt. Temperatures have also dropped in neighboring Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

A cold wave is expected today in Hoshiarpur, Ferozepur, Faridkot, Muktsar, Fazilka, Bathinda, Moga, and Jalandhar districts. However, the weather will remain dry.

Punjab and Chandigarh’s air quality is polluted

Air quality is poor in most cities in Punjab and Chandigarh. Even though the paddy season is almost over, the AQI is not improving. Amritsar’s AQI was recorded at 94 at 6 am, Bathinda’s AQI was 76, Jalandhar’s AQI was 180, Khanna’s AQI was 115, Ludhiana’s AQI was 120, Mandi Gobindgarh’s AQI was 239, Patiala’s AQI was 105, and Rupnagar’s AQI was 63. While Sector 22 in Chandigarh recorded no AQI, Sector 25, adjacent to Punjab University and New Chandigarh, recorded an AQI of 128, and Sector 53, adjacent to Mohali, also recorded no AQI.
