Cold Wave, Dense Fog Grip Uttar Pradesh; Temperatures Colder Than Shimla, 4 Dead in 96 Hours

Varanasi: Cold wave and fog continue to wreak havoc in Uttar Pradesh. Snowfall in the mountains and cold winds have worsened the weather. In the last 24 hours, the state recorded temperatures colder than Shimla-Manali (7°C), Nainital (9°C) and Jammu (10°C). Meerut recorded a temperature of 5.9°C. After Meerut, Etawah was second with 6.4°C and Barabanki was third with 6.8°C.

Dense Fog Engulfs 27 Districts

Meanwhile, fog enveloped 27 districts, including Kanpur, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Bareilly, until 11 a.m. In Lucknow, the cold wave descended as a drizzle in the morning. Visibility was zero in many places. Visibility on the roads was so low that nothing was visible.

Fog-Related Road Accidents Claim Lives

Meanwhile, a brother-in-law and brother-in-law died in a road accident on the Varanasi-Azamgarh highway due to fog. A speeding loader crushed the two men riding a bike, leaving body parts strewn across the road. Meanwhile, in Farrukhabad, a man was injured when a truck and a pickup collided due to poor visibility.

More than 50 trains are running late at several railway stations, including Prayagraj and Deoria. More than 10 flights have been cancelled at several airports, including Gorakhpur and Varanasi, and many are departing late.
