Cold wave in Himachal, rain-snow alert till April 8

Districts such as Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Chamba, and Kangra have recorded rainfall, while higher altitude regions like Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur have experienced snowfall, leading to a sharp drop in temperatures.

Yellow alert issued for hailstorm and thunderstorms

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms in several parts of the state. Residents have been warned of gusty winds and sudden weather changes over the next few days.

Hailstorms have already been reported in some districts, and similar conditions are likely to continue, especially in mid-hill regions. Authorities have advised people to remain cautious during lightning and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather.

Western disturbance behind weather shift

Meteorologists attribute the sudden change in weather to an active western disturbance affecting the Western Himalayan region. This system is bringing moisture and instability, resulting in rain, snow, and thunderstorms.

The IMD has indicated that such conditions may continue for a few more days, with another disturbance likely to influence the region, prolonging the cold spell.
