Cold wave intensifies in Rajasthan, dense fog and clouds will disrupt normal life

Jaipur: Cold wave conditions are expected to intensify in Rajasthan from Sunday. According to the Meteorological Department, minimum temperatures are expected to drop by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius in many parts of the state, and night temperatures may reach around 4 degrees Celsius in some areas. This information was provided by Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Center, Jaipur.

He stated that a cold wave is about to begin in the state, with the effects particularly felt in the northern and eastern districts.

Cold wave impacts, Anganwadi centers closed

In view of the severe cold, Anganwadi centers in Sriganganagar district have been closed until January 10. The District Collector has declared a holiday from January 2 to January 10.

On Thursday, minimum temperatures were recorded above 10 degrees Celsius in most cities, although Sirohi recorded the lowest temperature of 7.2 degrees Celsius. Day and night temperatures remained nearly the same in many cities, maintaining the cold. Sriganganagar recorded the season’s lowest maximum temperature, while Jaipur, Alwar, Bikaner, and Churu recorded temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius.

Dense fog likely to impact flights

Cloudy conditions prevailed in several districts, including Jaipur and Sikar, exacerbating the cold. Fog began to settle in northern districts on Thursday evening, and the cold and dense fog have been disrupting normal life since the beginning of the new year.

On Friday morning, visibility dropped to around 50 meters in several districts, including Jaipur, Bharatpur, Sikar, and Dausa. Flight services in Jaisalmer and Udaipur are also likely to be affected, prompting IndiGo Airlines to issue a passenger advisory.

Rain brings relief to farmers, fog alert issued

Due to the influence of a western disturbance, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms was recorded in Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, Jaipur, and parts of Bharatpur divisions over the past 24 hours. Sridungargarh in Bikaner district recorded the highest rainfall of 26 mm. Light rain also occurred in some areas of Jaipur and Bharatpur divisions on Thursday.

According to agricultural experts, this winter rain is beneficial for Rabi crops and has brought relief to farmers.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a double alert for Friday. An orange alert has been issued for very dense fog in Bharatpur, Dausa, Deeg, Dholpur, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Khairthal-Tijara, Kotputli-Behror, Sawai Madhopur, Sikar, Churu, Hanumangarh, and Sriganganagar districts. People and travellers have been advised to remain alert as visibility may suddenly drop significantly in these areas.
