CM Bhagwant Singh Mann Lays Foundation Stone for Compressed Biogas Plant in Haibowal, Ludhiana

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann laid the foundation stone for a ₹65-crore Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Haibowal, Ludhiana. According to the Punjab government, the project will help prevent cow dung and waste generated by the dairy complex from entering the Buddha Dariya and is expected to reduce sewage blockages and water pollution in the area. The plant will be constructed on around 2.5 acres and is expected to become operational by September 2027. Under the project, around 300 tonnes of cow dung will be scientifically processed every day.

Target to Produce 5 Tonnes of Compressed Biogas Daily

The proposed plant is planned to produce around 5 tonnes of compressed biogas every day. Organic bio-fertiliser will also be produced at the facility. According to the Punjab government, the project could help improve the utilisation of cow dung, reduce dependence on chemical fertilisers, improve soil quality and promote organic farming.

435 Dairy Operators Expected to Benefit

Scientific management of the large quantity of cow dung generated daily at the Haibowal Dairy Complex is expected to directly benefit around 435 dairy owners. The project has been linked to the Punjab government’s ‘Waste to Wealth’ mission, which aims to convert waste into an economic resource while creating additional income opportunities for dairy operators.

Focus on Preventing Waste from Entering Buddha Dariya

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said the most important aspect of the project is that it will help prevent untreated cow dung and waste generated by the dairy complex from entering the Buddha Dariya. According to the Punjab government, this will help reduce water pollution and improve sanitation in and around the dairy complex. The project has been described as an important step under the Buddha Dariya rejuvenation programme.

More Such Plants to Be Set Up Across Punjab

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said more projects of this kind would be established across Punjab to promote green energy and reduce pollution. He also appealed to people not to discharge untreated wastewater into the state’s water bodies. The Chief Minister said maintaining the cleanliness of water sources is essential for the environment and future generations.
