Gairsain: On Wednesday, during the ongoing Uttarakhand Assembly session, the Congress staged a protest at the Assembly complex in Gairsain. The party protested the short duration of the session and demanded its extension. The Congress party stated that adequate time should be allocated for discussions on issues such as roads, health, education, and corruption related to various assembly constituencies in the state. During the protest, the leaders also raised public concerns.
Congress leaders also raised the Ankita Bhandari murder case and questioned the ruling party’s silence on the matter. The opposition continued its protests for the second consecutive day during the two-day Assembly session that began on Tuesday.
Congress Accuses Government, Demands Accountability in the Assembly
Congress MLA Lakhpat Singh criticized the BJP government in an interview with reporters. He alleged that the government’s policies have worsened the situation in the state and that the ruling party is consistently ignoring the interests of Uttarakhand. He stated that the Congress will continue to raise public issues from the streets to the Assembly.
Lakhpat Singh said, “Look at how the BJP has brought about the religious, economic, social, and political decline of this state. They are constantly insulting the state. In response, the Congress party is waging a struggle from the streets to the Assembly. No accountability is being ensured in the Assembly for matters like corruption and the Ankita murder case, but the government must take responsibility.”
Controversy over viral audio, BJP leader protests
Meanwhile, a viral audio clip has sparked a political controversy in Uttarakhand. Allegations have surfaced regarding the family of Chakrata Congress MLA Pritam Singh.
In the audio clip circulating on social media, the MLA’s brother, Chaman Singh, can allegedly be heard using threatening and abusive language against a man named Balakram. It is also alleged that Balakram was pressured to enroll his two daughters in the Congress party.
On the second day of the Assembly session, BJP leader Madhu Chauhan, along with his supporters, protested against the Congress party and Pritam Singh outside the Assembly premises. The protesters also burned an effigy.
Daughters allege threats, demand strict action
Diksha, one of Balakram’s daughters, spoke to IANS, representing her family. She explained that her family has traditionally supported the Congress party, but she and her sister decided to contest the college elections independently. Following this, her family allegedly began receiving threats.
Diksha said, “Our family has always supported the Congress party. However, during the college elections, we decided to contest independently. Following this, people associated with the Congress party began threatening my father. We demand strict action against the culprits.”
