Congress Leaders Protest: Rahul, Priyanka stage sit-in near PM’s residence; demand resignation over NEET paper leak

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi staged a protest on Delhi’s Lok Kalyan Marg on Tuesday. Several party leaders, including Congress MP from Wayanad Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and K.C. Venugopal, participated in the demonstration. Congress leaders raised slogans demanding the resignations of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. This protest was held in opposition to the lathi-charge carried out against students marching from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament.

Reports indicate that several Congress leaders were detained by the Delhi Police during the protest. A day after the lathi-charge on the students’ march to Parliament, Congress MPs Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had visited the injured students at RML Hospital.

What did Rahul Gandhi say about the protest?
In a post on X, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said, “We marched to the Prime Minister’s residence to demand answers regarding the brutality inflicted upon young students yesterday. The government neither wants to accept accountability nor debate the issue in Parliament. The Prime Minister and the Home Minister must resign for ruining the future of India’s youth.”

Met students injured in police action
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi visited Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital on Tuesday to meet students injured in police action during the march to Parliament over the NEET paper leak issue. Both leaders inquired about the students’ condition and wished them a speedy recovery.

According to sources, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi also met the mother of an injured young woman who is currently on ventilator support at RML Hospital. In a post on the social media platform X, the Congress stated that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, accompanied by the party’s General Secretary (Organization) K.C. Venugopal, met the students injured in the “police brutality and lathi-charge” during the youth protest on Monday.

Rahul says Prime Minister should apologize
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologize for the “police brutality” against students and resign, along with Home Minister Amit Shah. Speaking to reporters within the Parliament complex, Rahul Gandhi mentioned that he, along with other MPs, had met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday morning and that the opposition seeks a parliamentary discussion on the issue concerning the students.
