New Delhi: Congress MP and Lok Sabha member from Ludhiana, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding a ban on the proposed OTT web series “Lawrence of Punjab.” He alleges that the series promotes crime and gangster culture.
Allegations of glorifying crime
In the letter, dated April 23, 2026, Warring stated that the web series is claimed to be based on the life of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. He stated that such content could influence youth in the wrong direction and normalize crime.

Claims impact on Punjab’s image
In his letter, Warring stated that Punjab is the sacred land of gurus, saints, and pirs, and it is wrong to associate it with the image of any criminal. He said that such a series is an insult to the state and its cultural identity.
Demand for Government Intervention
The MP urged the Prime Minister to direct Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah to ban the broadcast of the series.
Concern over impact on youth
Warding said that portraying crime and gangster culture as entertainment is extremely dangerous, as it could influence the youth and attract them towards crime.
He appealed to the government to immediately intervene in this matter and stop the release of the series.
