Congress protests rising Petrol and Diesel Prices in Jalandhar; Effigy of Central Government Burnt

In protest against rising inflation in Punjab and the continuously escalating prices of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas, the Congress party today launched a frontal attack against the Central Government in Jalandhar. Congress workers and senior leaders gathered in large numbers outside the Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office, staged a vigorous demonstration, and burned an effigy of the Central Government.

The leaders alleged that, due to the government’s anti-people policies, every section of society is currently in distress. Addressing the protesters, senior Congress leader, former Education Minister, and MLA Pargat Singh expressed deep concern over the country’s current situation.

He stated that, within the last four months, the country’s situation has deteriorated from bad to worse and has become extremely alarming. He asserted that the government has proven to be a complete failure in controlling inflation.

Recalling the statements made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Parliament, MLA Pargat Singh noted that Rahul Gandhi had already warned the Central Government. He had cautioned that the continuous rise in petrol and diesel prices would completely ruin the common people; however, the Central Government—intoxicated by power—completely ignored these grave hardships faced by the public.

Targeting the Punjab Government as Well

Along with the Central Government, Pargat Singh also took strong exception to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. He remarked that while Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is highly adept at cracking jokes from public platforms, he appears oblivious to the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Punjab.

Incidents of heinous crimes—such as murder, robbery, and extortion—are on the rise daily across the state. He urged the public to remain vigilant against these false promises and political rhetoric.

Rajinder Beri Launches a Sharp Attack

During the protest, Congress District President Rajinder Beri also launched a scathing attack on the Central Government. He asserted that the government merely seeks pretexts to levy taxes and hike fuel prices. By raising prices four times within just 11 days, the government has demonstrated that it has absolutely no concern for the suffering of the common man.
