Congress Shows Unity, Rallies Against BJP at Guruharsahai MNREGA Event

FEROZEPUR: The Congress party put up a strong show of strength and unity during the “MNREGA Bachao Sangram Rally” held in Guruharsahai on Sunday as part of its ongoing campaign against the BJP-led Central government. The rally also witnessed sharp criticism of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab.

Senior Leaders Share Stage Amid Party Unity Concerns

The gathering assumed political significance as senior state and national leaders shared the stage at a time when the party has been facing questions over internal unity. Punjab Congress president and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Punjab Congress in-charge and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh, former MLAs Parminder Singh Pinky and Devinder Singh Ghubaya, along with several other leaders, were present.

Addressing the rally, Raja Warring said that the Congress would not back down from its struggle and would continue to raise issues concerning the common people. He alleged that BJP state president Sunil Jakhar was a defector from the Congress and had betrayed the party.

BJP Criticised for Policies Against Labourers and Poor

Raja Warring further accused the BJP of consistently undermining the rights of the poor, labourers, and Dalits, terming the G-RAM-G Bill as anti-worker. Congress state in-charge Bhupesh Baghel alleged that the BJP was determined to end MNREGA and said the decision to change its name exposed the party’s mindset. He claimed the BJP neither cared for labourers nor respected Mahatma Gandhi.

Grassroots Strength Highlighted by Congress Leaders

Former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said the large turnout reflected the Congress party’s grassroots strength, while Partap Singh Bajwa said the rally was a clear answer to questions about the party’s unity.

Former MLA Raminder Awla highlighted Ferozepur’s status as a border district that has been historically backward and asserted that Congress workers from the area were the backbone of the party. He promised that once the Congress comes to power, ownership rights of uncultivated lands would be regularised to ensure prosperity, while also alleging that the Modi government had weakened a scheme that kept the poor’s hearths burning.
