Jalandhar: The employees of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan handed over a demand letter today to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Party President and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, Executive President Sherry Kalsi, and Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO during the Chief Minister’s roadshow.
In their letter, they expressed a lack of faith in the state’s bureaucracy, specifically mentioning Finance Minister Harpal Cheema. Finance Minister Cheema had issued orders during a meeting on November 6 and reiterated them in a meeting on December 9, instructing officials to resolve the issues of regularization and salary reduction within 15 days.
However, the officials in the department and the personnel department have ignored these directives. The Chief Minister had given written orders to regularize office staff on April 21, 2022, and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora has also provided instructions to the officials multiple times, but the issues remain unresolved.
Union leaders stated that following the acceptance of demands on March 14, 2024, the Advocate General of Punjab has consented to the regularization of office staff by the procedures for 8,886 teachers. This means there are no legal obstacles to appointing staff in the Education Department.
Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Mid Day Meal Office Employees Union Leaders Shobhit Bhagat and Gagandeep Sharma issued a press statement saying that Party President and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora assured the delegation that a panel meeting with the Punjab Chief Minister would be held soon.
Union leaders emphasized that the strike by Non-Teaching Staff will continue, and their demands must be addressed. On December 20, all office employees plan to march towards the Chief Minister’s residence in Chandigarh.
