23 Convicted in 10-Year-Old Bharatpur Murder Case; 12 Get Life Term

Rajasthan: In a major verdict in a decade-old murder case, the Additional District and Sessions Court No. 3 in Bharatpur convicted 23 people from two rival families. Of them, 12 — including a former sarpanch — were sentenced to life imprisonment, while 11 others were awarded seven years in jail. Three accused who died during the trial were also held guilty by the court.

A large number of people from both sides gathered at the court premises when the judgment was pronounced.

Dispute Began in 2015

According to Additional Public Prosecutor Dharmendra Kumar, the case dates back to August 16, 2015, and the incident occurred in Pipla village under Chiksana police station limits.

Dayachand, a resident of Pipla, had lodged a complaint stating that his nephew Rakesh was standing at the village bus stand when, due to election rivalry, then village head Saudan Singh and his family members attacked him. When Rakesh’s relatives tried to intervene, they were also assaulted.

Victim Shot Dead

During the clash, former Sarpanch Saudan Singh allegedly shot Rakesh, killing him on the spot. Several other family members were injured. A case was registered against Saudan Singh and 15 others.

After investigation, the police filed charges against 15 accused. During the trial, three — Bhoja, Saudan and Raju — passed away, but the court still found them guilty. The remaining 12 were sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Rs 20,000 each.

Cross Case and Sentences

Following the incident, Shyamlal from the opposing group also filed an FIR, alleging that Dayachand and his relatives attacked his family and injured several members. In this case, 11 people were named as accused.

After the trial, the court convicted these 11 individuals and sentenced each of them to seven years in prison along with a fine of Rs 10,000.

The verdict, delivered nearly 10 years after the incident, has finally brought legal closure to the prolonged dispute between the two families.
