Counting of Puri Jagannath Temple’s Ratna Bhandaar (Treasury) Begins After 48 Years

The inventory of the Jagannath Temple’s Ratna Bhandaar (treasure trove) began on Wednesday after 48 years. According to officials, the purpose of this process is to document the jewellery and other valuables kept in the temple.

Experts and Officials Present

Temple servants, bank officials, gemologists, and representatives from the Reserve Bank of India participated in the process. Arvind Padhi, Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), said that the work lasted for about six hours on the first day.

Counting, weighing, videography, photography, and 3D mapping were carried out during this period.

Work Begins at an Auspicious Time

Authorized personnel entered the temple at around 11:30 a.m. wearing traditional dhoti and towel. The counting process was carried out between the designated auspicious time of 12:09 pm and 1:45 pm.

The counting process formally began at 12:12 pm.

First Day’s Work Completed Peacefully

The first day’s proceedings concluded around 6:15 pm. According to officials, the entire process was completed smoothly and under strict security.

This counting, being conducted after nearly five decades, will create a detailed record of the temple’s treasury.
