Court summons Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa over alleged objectionable lyrics in song ‘Sirra’

Chandigarh: A court has summoned popular Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa in connection with a complaint over allegedly objectionable lyrics in his recent song “Sirra”. The court has directed Randhawa to appear on September 2.

The court of Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate Rajinder Singh, Samrala issued summons to Randhawa under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for examination of the complaint. The court has asked him to be present either personally or through his legal counsel.

The case was initiated after Rajdeep Singh Mann of Samrala, lodged a complaint claiming that a portion of the track carried derogatory content. The lines in question state: “We are the sons of Jatts. We got opium as our first food when we were born.”

Representing the complainant, Advocate Gurbir Singh Dhillon argued that the lyrics not only portray the Jatt community in poor light but also encourage drug culture. “We are seeking registration of an FIR against Randhawa,” he said.
The complaint also names Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon Music, Instagram, Spotify India, Warner Music India, and other streaming platforms for hosting the track.
