CPI-M Calls Protest March After Party Office Set on Fire in Bengal’s Jalpaiguri

Kolkata: The CPI-M has called for a protest march in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district on Tuesday after its party office was allegedly vandalised and set on fire by unidentified miscreants.

According to the CPI-M, the incident took place on Monday night at its district office on DBC Road in Jalpaiguri. The party alleged that people affiliated with the BJP attacked the office with sticks, vandalised the premises and later set it on fire.

The CPI-M said the violence continued for some time and that it subsequently filed a written complaint with the police.

Md Salim Condemns Attack

CPI-M state secretary Md Salim condemned the incident and shared a video of the alleged attack on his X handle.

He alleged that BJP-affiliated miscreants attacked the Jalpaiguri district office at around 10:30 p.m. The video shared by him purportedly shows a group of people attacking the office and setting it on fire.

According to the party, people inside the office shut the gate during the attack. The attackers allegedly attempted to break open the gate and threatened those inside.

CPI-M Demands Arrest, Announces Protest

CPI-M district secretary Piyush Mishra demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the incident.

“RSS-BJP miscreants vandalised the Jalpaiguri district party office, set it on fire, and even burned the party flag,” Mishra alleged.

He announced that the party would hold a protest march from the Jalpaiguri district centre at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. He also appealed to people to join the march from Subodh Sen Bhavan to condemn the incident and “protect the red flag”.

There has been no response from the BJP to the allegations so far.
