Cricket’s New Frontier: ETPL Launches Glasgow Mugafians with Star Power Ownership

Mumbai: Europe’s first ICC-sanctioned T20 franchise competition, the European T20 Premier League (ETPL), has announced a Glasgow-based team in Scotland, the ‘Glasgow Mugaffians’. The franchise is owned by Tansha Batra, while West Indies legend Chris Gayle is its co-owner and global brand ambassador.

The first edition of the ETPL will be played from August 26 to September 20, 2026. Six teams from Glasgow, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Dublin, Belfast, and Rotterdam will participate, playing a total of 33 matches.

Star-studded league and big franchise vision

ETPL co-owner and Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan said, “We welcome the Mugafi Group and Chris Gayle to this journey. Europe is one of the most exciting new regions for cricket. The ETPL is not just a league, but a platform that will provide opportunities for talent and give cricket a new identity in Europe.”

Tansha Batra, owner of the Glasgow Mugafis, said, “We are not bringing cricket to Scotland; it already exists here. We are providing a professional platform to showcase the cricket story here to the world.”

Chris Gayle Becomes Co-Owner and Global Brand Ambassador

Chris Gayle said, “Joining Glasgow Mugaffians as co-owner is a new and exciting journey for me. The ETPL is rapidly gaining global attention. Europe is the new frontier for cricket and holds great potential for nurturing young talent.”

ETPL’s Global Franchise Network Continues to Strengthen

The ETPL boasts some of the world’s biggest names. The Amsterdam team is supported by Australian legend Steve Waugh and hockey star Jamie Dwyer, while the Belfast team is co-owned by Glenn Maxwell. The Edinburgh team is led by Kyle Mills and Nathan McCullum, and captained by Mitchell Santner. Now, Glasgow has joined this prestigious list.

The ETPL is being developed in collaboration with Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland, and the Royal Dutch Cricket Association.
