Ottawa: The Ontario Court of Canada on Thursday banned media coverage, broadcasting and reporting on the trial proceedings of Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) temporary chief Arshdeep Singh Gill alias Arsh Dalla and his associate Gurjant Singh. This decision has been taken on the demand of the Canadian government.
In fact, an application was filed in the court by the lawyer of the Canadian government. In this, a ban was sought on the broadcast of the court proceedings. This application has been accepted by the Ontario court. This ban will remain in force till the trial is over.
In an important development in this case, India has indicated to make a formal request for the extradition of Arsh Dalla. Dalla is accused of several serious criminal cases and involvement in terrorism activities in India. Dalla was declared a terrorist by the Indian Home Ministry in 2023.
In July 2023, India requested the Canadian government for the temporary arrest of Dalla. However, this request was rejected at that time. But now the recent arrest in Canada has accelerated the extradition process. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said “We have taken cognizance of media reports about the arrest of Arsh Dalla in Canada. He was arrested on November 10, and Canadian print and visual media have done extensive reporting on this incident.”
Jaiswal said that keeping in mind Dalla’s pending criminal cases in India and his involvement in illegal activities in Canada, Indian agencies are working on taking the extradition process forward. He said that due to Arsh Dalla’s crimes, it is expected that he will be brought to India and brought to justice. Our agencies will take necessary action on extradition in view of the recent arrest.
India had sought Dalla’s arrest from Canada in 2023. However, the Canadian government rejected this demand at that time. Meanwhile, in January 2023, India informed Canada about Dalla’s suspicious addresses, his transactions in India, his properties and mobile numbers.
