Ludhiana: After unidentified assailants robbed a taxi driver of his car and shot him dead on the Ludhiana – Chandigarh highway in Samrala, the police found that the robber drove away the car towards Shimla after crossing Panchkula.
According to the police, the police have scanned CCTV cameras and tracked the movement of the car and as of now it has been learnt that the accused have driven towards Shimla from Panchkula side.
The incident had occurred near village Harion during early morning hours of Saturday when the victim, identified as Ravi Kumar of Chandigarh, was heading towards Ludhiana.
According to the victim’s father Raj Kumar, his son Ravi had made a call at around 4 am stating that he had been shot and he shared his location. But before Raj Kumar reached the spot, Ravi had already succumbed to injuries.
Raj Kumar stated that before leaving the house on Friday late, Ravi informed him that he is going to drop a customer in Ludhiana and then at around 4 am he made a call to him.
Raj Kumar added that Ravi didn’t mention anything about the assailant and when he reached the spot Ravi had already died. Moreover, his Alto car was also missing from the spot. Raj said that Ravi had no rivalry with anyone.
He suspected that the robbers had booked the taxi posing as customers and later drove away the car after shooting his son
After receiving the information, the Samrala police also reached the spot. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP – Samrala) Tarlochan Singh said that the police are scanning the CCTV cameras to track the movement of the vehicle and to trace the accused. The police are also getting the data of the customer who booked the taxi for Ludhiana.
As of now the police have registered an FIR against unidentified person, he said.
