Jalandhar: Two individuals, including a female migrant employed as a caretaker in a house near New Court Chowk in Jalandhar, Punjab, committed cyber fraud. The accused initially transferred Rs 6,84,000 from the elderly person’s phone using UPI to different accounts and then absconded after stealing about 6.5 tolas (65 grams) of gold. The victim, Rishipal Singh, reported the incident to the Navi Baradari police station.
The police have registered a case against two individuals, including a woman, based on the victim’s statement. The accused have been identified as Anuj Singh, son of Virender Singh, and Sushila Singh alias Neelam Singh, wife of Santosh Kumar, residents of Kotwali Dehat village, Jaitapur district, Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. A case has been registered against them under BNS 318 and 305, along with the IT Act. The police are making efforts to apprehend both accused individuals.
In the statement given to the police, 90-year-old Rishipal Singh said that the accused, Sushila Singh alias Neelam, was hired as a caretaker in the house. She used to do all the household work. The accused woman, along with her partner, cloned the phone of the elderly and transferred about 6 lakh 84 thousand rupees to their accounts through his online payment app.
Afterwards, the accused Anuj stole the victim’s gold chain (5 tolas/50gm) and 2 gold rings (one and a half tolas) and absconded. When the incident was reported to the police, a case was registered after investigation. Police parties are conducting raids in search of the accused.
