Jalandhar: SSP Jalandhar Rural Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh’s team has arrested a member of the interstate illegal arms smuggling gang. Police have recovered 5 country-made pistols from the possession of the accused. The arrested accused has been identified as Sunil Kumar alias Ziona resident of village Mandyala, police station Lohian, district Jalandhar.
SSP Khakh said that on October 2, the police received secret information that a consignment of illegal weapons was being delivered in the Lambra area. After this Inspector Pushp Bali, in-charge of the CIA staff of his team, formed a special team under the supervision of DSP D and command of SP Jasroop Kaur Bath.
The police team raided based on secret information while patrolling in the Puara Puli area and arrested Sunil Kumar from Adda Nijharan with illegal weapons. The SSP said that during the search, a .32 bore pistol, a magazine and two live cartridges were recovered from Sunil Kumar’s possession, while three more pistols and 6 live cartridges were recovered from his kit bag. SSP said that a total of 5 pistols and 5 cartridges were recovered from the possession of the accused. Lambra police registered an FIR against the accused under sections 25(1)-Ghee, 25(6)(7)(8) and section 29/54/59 of Arms Act.
Police investigation revealed that Sunil Kumar is involved in smuggling of weapons from Madhya Pradesh to Punjab and the accused brings weapons from Madhya Pradesh and sells them here at high prices. Interrogation revealed that the accused was recently released on bail in a drug smuggling case.
SSP said that the accused has a long history in criminal activities, including crimes related to arms and drugs. His network is linked to high-profile criminals operating from abroad, including Jagdeep Singh alias Jagga Phukiwal and Pawan Kumar alias Pamma. SSP Khakh said that Jagdeep is known to run an extortion racket from England. He said that Jagga Phukiwal and Pamma are associated with notorious criminal Landa Harike.
The SSP said that the above accused indicate a wide criminal network involved in arms smuggling, drug trafficking and extortion. The SSP said that other links are being traced during the interrogation of the accused and investigation is on to nab other members of this criminal syndicate. The SSP said that the arrested accused will be produced in the court and remand will be obtained so that the purchase of weapons and planned criminal activities can be ascertained.
